Whoops.
Well, we got three wrong winners from three tight matchups, one conference final that makes total sense, and one that makes none. Let's see what we have to work with.

Definitely no real paper mismatches for round two. This has the makings of a long, highly entertaining run of hockey, which is really what the NHL was going for when they revived the '80s playoff format. Of course, they probably weren't gunning for arguably the top two teams in the League meeting in the division finals, but that's kinda what happened back then, too. Of course, now the Smythe is the tragicomedy and the Norris is the knife fight in the alley, but details.
Oh, hey, didn't see you there. This year, I've managed to actually watch even less hockey than last year, which makes this whole exercise look increasingly futile. Heck, I was so swamped earlier in the week that I kind of couldn't be bothered to finish and post this before the first games. For what it's worth, the early games really didn't influence things at all: there's been a lot more paper mismatches here than I can remember in previous years. There's often at least a couple of upsets compared to what's on paper, but there was nothing I really felt strongly about this time around.

Thank goodness. I was getting really worried I was gonna have to pick Ottawa for the Cup simply because the fates were on their side. Unfortunately, this makes for the harder of the two series to call, since...well, let's get to it.

Game 7s betray me in a repeat of the 2011 first round. Le sigh.

That could've gone a lot better. Part of me feels silly having gotten the Atlantic Division in particular all wrong, but to be fair, the two worst possession teams in the playoffs did just beat the first- and third-best possession teams in the playoffs, and by the end, Boston's D corps wound end up consisting of Chara, Liles, and the Providence Bruins' top four. C'est la vie and all that. Let's see if the division finals fare any better for me.
